Jean Pierre Papin crowned in Marseille for THE WORLD’S BEST TOP GOALSCORER 1991 by IFFHS.
After FIFA took the WORLD’S BEST FOOTBALLER Award, the IFFHS decided to create 3 new Annual Awards.
First, the CLUB WORLD RANKING where are considered the results of the previous 12 months (1.1 to 31.12) with different criterias for the continents (see www.iffhs.de – CWR Explanation). This ranking had met a growing worldwide interest.
Second, the STRONGEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD calculated on the basis of all national and inter (continental) results of the clubs in the year (1.1 to 31.12).
Third, THE WORLD’S BEST TOP GOAL SCORER calculated with the international goals with country and club in the year from 1.1 to 31.12.
So in 1991, IFFHS had 5 Awards to determine.
