IFFHS AWARDS – THE WORLD’S BEST CLUB COACH 2019 : JÜRGEN KLOPP (GERMANY/LIVERPOOL FC)
PRESENTATION
Jürgen Norbert Klopp, born 16 June 1967 in Stuttgart, is currently the German Coach of UEFA Champions League winner 2019 and Premier League leader 2020 Liverpool FC. Known for his offensive football philisophy, he had his greatest year in 2019, winning the World Awards of The Best FIFA Coach and the IFFHS World’s best Club Coach !
After his youth career as player, Klopp joined 1.FSV Mainz 05 where he spent 11 years (1990 to 2001). As hard-working and physical defender or midfielder, he played 340 matches with Mainz, scoring 56 goals in the Second Bundesliga.
Retiring as player in 2001, Jürgen Klopp became the club Manager of Mainz until 2008. He secured Bundesliga promotion in 2004 , achieving the objective of the club and becoming the club’s longest serving manager (7 seasons manager and 11 seasons player !).
He joined Borussia Dortmund in 2008, buiding there a great team. Until 2015 (longest serving manager of Borussia Dortmund), he won two Bundesliga titles (2010/11, 2011/12), one DFB Cup (2011/12), two DFL Super Cups (2013, 2014) and was runner-up of the UEFA Champions League final 2012/13 against FC Bayern München in London ! In Dortmund, he was crowned two times as German’s Manager of the Year (2011, 2012) !
In 2015, Klopp moved to England’s Premier League and to Liverpool FC. He led the team to the podium each year in the Premier League and particularly to two successive UEFA Champions League finals in 2018 (lost against Real Madrid) and 2019, winning the latter to secure his first title with Liverpool and the club’s sixth title in the competition ! The team finished also at the second place in the Premier League with 97 points, the third highest total in the History ! In the following season, Liverpool won also the UEFA Super Cup 2019 and the FIFA Club World Cup 2019, being unbeaten in the Premier League during 44 games and dominating the Premier League 2019/20 like no team before ! He became again Germany’s Manager of the Year 2019 but particularly won the two World Awards FIFA and IFFHS !
