PRESENTATION
Joaquim Löw, born 3 February 1960 in Schönau am Schwarzwald, is currently the Coach of Germany’s National Team since 2006 ! He has won the FIFA World Cup 2014 and the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017, to be crowned these two years to THE WORLD’S BEST NATIONAL COACH by IFFHS.
After his youth development in Schönau ,the German Löw started his player career in Freiburg ( 2.Bundesliga) in 1978. He came back two times to SC Freiburg between 1980 and 1989 after two seasons at VFB Stuttgart (80/81)) and at Eintracht Frankfurt (81/82), one season at Karlsruher SC (84/85). With SC Freiburg, he realised his best performances, holding the club’s overall goal scoring record. He played there 252 matches, scoring 81 goals in 9 seasons !He played 4 games with the U23 German National Team but never in the A-team. He ended his player career in Switzerland , playing five years with FC Schaffhausen and FC Winterthur.

While being still active in Winterthur, he started his coaching career as youth coach in Switzerland. In 1994, he was nominated player-coach of FC Frauenfeld always in Switzerland and his qualities allowed him quickly to be contacted by the Bundesliga clubs. He signed at VFB Stuttgart in 1996 where he won the DFB Cup 1996/97 and was runner-up of the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup 1997/98, also of the DFB LigaCup 1997 ! Two seasons in Stuttgart and direction Turkey with a contract at Fenerbahce in 1998. Only one season and return to Germany to Karlsruhe SC without success. He came back to Turkey and Adanaspor in 2000 for a few months before joining Tirol Innsbruck in Austria where he won the Austrian Bundesliga 2001/02. Löw joined then the rival Austria Vienna and won the Austrian Supercup 2003.
Löw, the Coach
Joaquim Löw became in 2004 the Assistant of Germany’s National Coach Jürgen Klinsmann to prepare the FIFA World Cup in Germany 2006. A third place at the World Cup let him the possibility to succeed to Jürgen Klinsmann in July 2006 as new National Team Coach of Germany. Since this moment, he realised great performances with his team. He participated at 4 UEFA Euros (2008 to 2016) and in the next months at his fifth UEFA Euro , being runner-up in 2008 and third in 2012 and 2016 ! He led Germany to 3 FIFA World Cup participations, being third in 2010 and winning the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil after the memorable 7-1 in semi final against Brazil and the 1-0 in the final against Argentina ! In 2017, his team won also the FIFA Confederations Cup . These performances were so impressive that he was crowned two times in 2014 and in 2017 as THE WORLD’S BEST NATIONAL COACH by IFFHS. Next step : the UEFA Euro 2020 for his fifth participation and maybe his first UEFA title !
